The celebration will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 from 10am to 2pm at the Children’s Peace Garden located at 1630 Hawthorn in Boulder. Admission is free! Donations are cheerfully welcome. Garden costumes are encouraged! Please leave your furry friends at home.
April is the ideal time to explore the beauty of Growing Gardens’ organic farm as everything is budding to life. Children will be able to plant seeds to take home, investigate insect habitats, explore the worm composting system, learn about local honeybees, try on beekeeper suits and visit the demonstration hive, and create garden art. There will also be an obstacle course on-site where kids weave through a diverse set of garden mazes and obstacles. Prizes are awarded to everyone completing the course. We'll have live music from local bluegrass bands, to be announced in spring of 2017.
The goats from our neighbors at Mountain Flower Goat Dairy will be at the event- and will stage some very lively baby goat races! (Please leave your dogs at home because the goats get nervous!) Long's Gardens will be there to demo how to carefully divide iris plus information on how and when you can dig your own from their beautiful iris fields.
Admission and most activities are free and most appropriate for children 3 to 10 years old. The Wheel & Whisk Roadside Cafe and Two Hands Kitchen will be serving up yummy brunch and lunch options for your family. Riding bikes and alternative transportation is encouraged! We are along the bike path and on the bus route. Limited parking is available. Please drive slowly through the neighborhood.
Growing Gardens is located on the last remaining piece of agriculturally zoned land in the City of Boulder. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Cultiva Youth Project, Horticultural Therapy gardens, Community Gardens, our Greenhouse, Children's Peace Garden programs, Community Classes and our Orchard!
