    Travel Journaling, A-Z Class

Making a travel journal is fun and easy, and it enriches the experience a hundredfold. All you need are a few art supplies tucked away in a small case plus a blank journal – nothing fancy! And you don’t have to be an “artist”. All you need is just the desire to record your journey and a little time carved out here and there to quietly write, paste, and draw. Fran Meneley, a veteran traveler and a prolific journaler, feels we step outside of ourselves and are much more attuned to what’s really going on around us when we keep a travel journal. We notice the smell of a dusty road, how good a coke can taste far away from home, and the expressions on people’s faces while waiting for a train. These small details are the soul of the journey and, when recorded, become precious memories. Fran will share with you what she’s learned from years of travel journaling, such as which tools work best, how to collect some rather strange items, and ideas for laying out a page. She’ll also show you how to quickly stitch up a small journal like the one she carries. If you’d like to journal about a previous trip you’ve taken, bring in what you’ve collected and, if you wish, your own journal to work in. (You can also add to your materials from Fran’s selection of travel ephemera.) If, on the other hand, you want to journal on an upcoming trip, use Fran’s materials and “mock up” a journal as practice. The mock up is a sampler, as it were, for future reference.

     Please bring the following materials:

    • Glue stick. Fran particularly likes Elmer’s Extra Strength Glue Stick.

    • Optional: your own travel ephemera and photos

    • Optional: a blank journal if you have a favorite. Fran likes the Strathmore Visual Journal Mixed Media Vellum 5.5"x8".

    • Optional: small sharp scissors suitable for fine cutting

    • Optional: favorite waterproof pens (black and colors). Fran likes the Faber Castel PITT Artist “S” pen, Pigma Micron 05, and the Ultra Fine Point Sharpie

    • Optional: favorite watercolor set and brush

    • Optional: Apron

    Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
