    Venus, Earth's Evil Twin

The similarity in size, density and proximity of Venus to Earth earn Venus the title of “Earth’s twin.” However, Venus’ hellish 450°C surface temperature, sulfuric acid clouds and divergent geologic evolution challenge our fundamental understanding of how terrestrial planets work. Venus is where the importance of the greenhouse effect was first realized. Study of the links between surface, interior and climatic processes on Venus reinforces the idea that Venus could represent the fate of the Earth — making Venus an essential target for further exploration. Could Venus harbor life? What are the next steps in visiting our evil twin? Speaker: Dr. Larry Esposito, LASP & APS
