The Art of Duo, hosted by the Boulder International Chamber Music Competition, focuses on chamber music in its most intimate form — duo with piano. The event offers pianists and other instrumentalists an opportunity to come to beautiful Boulder, Colorado, for a few days to compete in front of an internationally acclaimed panel of judges.
The Art of the Duo is a competition open to pianists and other instrumentalists who perform together in the genre of chamber music duo. A jury will select select 20 duos from the international applicants and two duos from Colorado applicants. These duos will be invited to compete in two live rounds in Boulder: semi-final round, and final round. A closing concert will take place on November 6, 2016.
The selected duos will be invited to compete in two exciting live rounds November 3-6, 2016. In addition to media exposure and $15,000 in cash prizes, performance opportunities and engagements will be available to prizewinners.
The Art of Duo commissioned an original work by the internationally renowned composer Arthur Gottschalk. The 22 duos that are coming to Boulder for the live rounds of the competition will receive this score and be required to perform it during the competition.
Dairy Arts Center is the setting for the Art of Duo, which will take place in the center's main performance hall, The Gordon Gamm Theater, on an exquisite Shigeru Kawai SK-7 provided by the Boulder Piano Gallery.
