Frequently Asked Questions About Indoor Climbing in Boulder
Can kids climb?
Climbing is an excellent activity for kids, who oftentimes are like little monkeys and take right to the sport. In Boulder, a lot of kids start climbing almost as soon as they can walk. In fact, Boulder’s ABC Kids Climbing specializes in helping kids get started safely — no experience necessary — with lessons, classes, open gym sessions camps and more.
Can I bring a group to climb?
Many climbing gyms welcome groups if you call ahead to make sure you can be accommodated. If you have more than 2 climbers, it’s best to contact the gym to make sure there is space for your group.
What do I need to bring with me to climb?
Not too much is needed. Just make sure you wear clothing that is comfortable, flexible, not too loose and doesn’t reveal anything when seen from below. Most gyms rent rock shoes, so no need to buy your own (though you can bring yours if you already own a pair). Rock shoes are designed to be worn without socks. You can also bring your own chalk bag, although many places have a chalk bin for use.
Are there instructors or private lessons I can take?
Yes. All of the Boulder indoor climbing gyms listed on this page offer private climbing lessons, classes or both. Simply check out their websites to sign up. In addition, there are places to take outdoor rock climbing classes or lessons in Boulder, too. Find more outdoor rock climbing information here.
