6 Things to Do in Boulder Before Winter Is Over

Have you made the most of winter? If not, seize the season in Boulder with these end-of-winter activities and things to do.

1. Sample the Season’s Best Brews

Winter warmers, stouts, porters…now’s the time to slide into a cozy booth and sip toasty, dark drafts before brewers rotate in the citrusy spring brews. Try Avery’s Freeskier Pow Day IPA or Asher Brewing Company's Spice Whirled — or go explore any or all of Boulder's nearly 20 breweries.

2. Ski at a Colorado Gem

Colorado is home to 28 ski areas and 11 of the smaller areas are known as the Colorado Gems. Have you skied them all? Eldora Mountain Resort is one of Colorado’s gems and gets to the heart of what skiing is all about — discovery, camaraderie, going up and coming down. It’s also the local ski area for the 20-time national champion NCAA University of Colorado ski team and where local kiddos learn to ski.

3. Snowshoe or Cross-Country Ski

So, you’ve been yapping about it all winter but you haven’t done it yet? Then, carpe diem! There’s nothing like traipsing through a quiet, snow-blanketed landscape on snowshoes or cross-country skis to revive your senses in the dull of winter. Check out the stellar Nordic trails at Eldora Mountain Resort, ski right in Boulder at North Boulder Park, or head for the backcountry in Eldorado Canyon State Park or Indian Peaks Wilderness.

Tree-Hugger Tip

Let nature's sounds prevail. Keep loud voices and noises to a minimum when you're out adventuring.

4. Find Solitude Over a Cup of Tea

Wrap your hands around a warm mug of Darjeeling or taste an exotic blend at one of Boulder’s many tea hot spots. Admire the incredible architecture while you sip unique teas at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, hand-carved and -painted in Tajikistan and gifted to the city of Boulder. Or discover other tea tasting places.

5. Learn How to Cook Something Fabulous

Farmers market season is still a ways away, so take the time now to sharpen your cooking skills so that this will be the year that not one gorgeous tomato goes unused! Bring your friends and take a course at Food Labs, with a chic facility on Pearl Street and courses taught by local chefs, or select from a huge variety of classes (like “Great Paella at Home”) at Sur la Table.

6. Shop End-of-Winter Sales

Shopping Pearl Street’s locally owned and loved boutiques is always tempting, and it’s especially picturesque in winter when snow trims the edges of the historic buildings, the sun shines on the bricks and coffee and chocolate shops offer warm refuge all along the way. Plus, there are deals to be had as retailers clear out their winter stock.
