12 Ideas for a Girls' Night Out in Boulder

You know what they say — girls, they wanna have fun. So we've put together a list of ideas for a night out on the town with the ladies in Boulder. Whether you're looking to get down and dirty (via martinis or dancing) or are hoping to take in some of Boulder's local arts and culture in a more sophisticated manner, we hope these ideas can spark some inspiration to get dressed up and out of the house with the gals.

Espresso Martinis

Nothing kicks off a lively girls’ night out like a round of espresso martinis. Don your finest attire and step into the retro-chic dining room of the MICHELIN-recommended Stella’s. Gather around the glitzy bar at Rosetta Hall for top-tier espresso martinis. Opt for the rustic-yet-luxurious bar at Pizzeria Alberico and get a wood-fired Neapolitan-style pie to share. Or descend into the alluring speakeasy below Hotel BoulderadoLicense No. 1, for equally swanky drinks and vibes.

Tapas for All

Taste your way through some of Boulder’s most delicious restaurants with small dishes to share. Gemini serves up modern Spanish tapas at their cozy location in the heart of downtown on Pearl Street. Cafe Aion, perched on a bustling corner of The Hill, near the University of Colorado, has a colorful tapas menu focused on farm-to-table ingredients. Corrida has one of the best rooftops in Boulder (with heated “alpenglobes” you can reserve in the winter to dine under the stars) along with a sophisticated small plates menu and wine list to match. Don’t sleep on Dagabi Cucina in North Boulder — a hidden gem off the beaten path but with some of Boulder’s most raved-about tapas.

Salsa Dancing

Every Thursday from 6:30-11pm in East Boulder, The Avalon Ballroom hosts a “Boulder Salsa Social” where you and your gals can take an introductory salsa lesson and dance the night away. No partners are necessary, and all levels are welcome.

Weird Indie Films and Cool Art

Every Friday night, the Dairy Arts Center’s charming Boedecker Cinema hosts a bizarrely entertaining film screening called “Friday Night Weird” featuring everything from zombie apocalypse flicks to B-list cult favorites. Head to the Dairy early to grab a glass of wine from their in-house Polk Cafe and browse the art in four award-winning galleries.

Oysters and Champagne

Fresh oysters and cold champagne, need we say more? Load up the gang and indulge before a night out on the town — Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar is located on West Pearl, easy walking distance from all of Pearl Street’s happenings.

Tap Into Your Creative Side

Try your hand at crafting colorful landscapes at a Tinker Art Studio's BYO paint-and-sip night. The events take place on Friday nights from 6-8:30pm, once a month, and no art experience is necessary. Color Me Mine is also open most evenings for DIY potter painting from 6-8pm — a unique and fun way to spend an evening post-happy hour or dinner out on the town.

Live Music

There’s a live music show happening in Boulder pretty much every night of the week. If you want to rock out to some live jams post-drinks-and-dinner, check out the line-ups at Fox Theatre, Boulder Theater and Velvet Elk Lounge.

Zero Proof, Pure Fun

A fun night out doesn't have to revolve around alcohol. Most bars in Boulder have excellent mocktails and alcohol-free beer selections, but if you're looking for somewhere more sober-friendly, check out Tonic Alchemy Lounge, where you can sip on health-boosting elixirs, probiotic beverages and herbal cocktails in their laid-back lounge just off Pearl. Add a puff of flavored oxygen to the mix for an extra lift. Or, The Root Kava Bar is a chill spot with board games and live music that serves kava, a plant that has been cultivated for thousands of years in the South Pacific and is said to reduce stress and ease anxiety.

Dance Your Hearts Out

There's no other feeling quite like dominating the dance floor with your besties on a girls' night out. A few dance-y Boulder bars you can check out next time you're in town: Rosetta Hall’s spacious dance floor has live house music DJs spinning Thursday-Saturday; Press Play is a dive-y basement bar with vintage arcade games and live DJs Friday and Saturday (also Ladies Night on Thursdays with $3 mixed drinks); The Spotted James is a low-lit watering hole for college students with DJs spinning Thursday-Saturday and karaoke on Wednesdays; and Stella's Cucina turns into a dance floor on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30pm to 1am with a state-of-the-art sound system playing a mix of disco, deep house and techno beats.

Late-Night Slices

If you chose to imbibe, soak up any remnants of the night’s alcohol, or simply satisfy your late-night cravings with a big, cheesy slice from Cosmo’s Pizza (don’t forget the side of spicy ranch, obviously). They have two locations — one just east of downtown on 28th Street, and the other closer to the University on Baseline and 30th. Avanti F&B also slings late-night pizza Fridays until midnight and Saturday until 1am.

Dessert and a Nightcap

The Kitchen is an ideal spot to cozy up for a nightcap and indulge in a luxurious dessert. Head to their upstairs lounge (the door is to the right of the main entrance), which has big windows, sparkly modern chandeliers, tufted banquettes and a roaring fireplace. Their peanut butter mousse “dome” will make all right in the world, if only for a night.
